The COVID-19 pandemic has come at us in stages, it seems. The first was all of 2020 as we all waited for the arrival of a vaccine while wearing masks to stave off infection.

The second came in early 2021 when the vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson finally got here and folks lined up for the jab.

As we wait and wonder about the next phase--possible booster shots--and as we see more unsettling COVID numbers with each passing day, there are those who haven't yet been vaccinated but may now want to be.

And for more people than we might realize, that could be a difficult prospect simply because of the transportation issue and the inability to get to a location to get a vaccination.

For that reason, Owensboro Transit System is stepping in to help with its free COVID-19 vaccination clinic Monday, October 4th from 8 AM to 10:30 AM and Friday, October 8th from 2 PM to 4:30 PM.

The event will take place at the OTS headquarters at 430 Allen Street and no pre-registration is required. Additionally, recipients will need to bring an insurance card, if they have one.

OTS manager, Pamela Canary, told me the clinic is for those whose transportation opportunities are limited, but it isn't just limited to those who may not be able to drive themselves. She says anyone in our community will be able to stop in and be vaccinated.

By the way, it will be the Johnson & Johnson vaccine (the one I got) that will be utilized. J&J does not require a follow-up jab as Pfizer and Moderna do.

The clinic will be set up in tents in the OTS parking lot, providing plenty of social distancing opportunities. Masks will also be required and will be provided to those who don't have one.

The Owensboro Transit System's vaccination clinic is a partnership with the Green River District Health Department.
