Kentucky Family Host Insanely Fun and Creative Bob Ross Painting Party
When I was a kid, I used to watch Bob Ross on television. It's entirely possible you did too. And here's the thing. I was creative, but I didn't have any artistic talent when it came to drawing or painting. Truly! Sure, I was the guy you wanted on your Pictionary team, but it wasn't because I could draw. I was just really good at reading minds and guessing what my teammates were trying to draw.
That said, I was always fascinated with Bob Ross. There was something about his voice and the way he painted that drew me in. I tuned into The Joy of Painting and watched him create painting after painting and wished I had it in me to do the same. Bob hosted that PBS show from 1983 to 1994.
He passed away in 1995.
But, a family here in Owensboro, KY, is keeping his spirit alive and over the weekend hosted a Bob Ross painting party. They gathered some canvasses and supplies, rounded up the family, tuned into an old episode of his show and painted along with him.
My friend Cathy Carter, a well-known former radio news personality here in town, shared her pics from the party. While Cathy didn't participate in the actual painting, she did manage to capture the highlights beautifully. She accomplishes with a camera what Bob does with a brush.
She had taken one of Emily's daughters (Sophia) thrift shopping all day. When she brought her home, the rest of the family was in the process of creating their Bob Ross masterpieces.
Here are some photos from the party.
Cathy's daughter Emily and Emily's husband run a painting business called Terry Fulkerson Painting. Clearly, they know their way around a paint brush. As it turns out, nearly every one else in the family does.
That's Camille and her boyfriend Zach in the center of that photo and in the one below.
Here's a fun fact about the two of them. Both work at the International Center with Afghan and Congolese refugees. Another fun fact- they can apparently paint too. So can Camille's sister.
When it was all said and done, the family showed off their Bob Ross creations, which were on point. They nailed it.
What a terrific family-fun idea. As Bob used to say, "Happy clouds. Little mountains."
If you'd like to paint along with Bob Ross, there are tons of videos on his official YouTube channel. You can join the other 5.41 million subscribers who love The Joy of Painting. As Bob often said, "Drag out your brushes and your paints and paint along with us. I think you'll enjoy it."
