Governor Steve Beshear made a noontime appearance at the Owensboro Daviess County Regional Airport Thursday.  He also brought a gift. A check for $500,000 was presented to the airport to help with the more than $2 million expansion planned to begin in the next few weeks.

The money comes in the form of a multi-county grant from coal severance. Both Daviess County and Ohio County teamed up to apply for the grant. To qualify two or more coal producing counties must work together on a project that will build the economy of the region.

A large group of dignitaries, many who were at the airport a week ago for the announcement of direct OWB  - Los Vegas flights beginning Oct. 14, returned to hear about the more than 2.1 million dollar terminal expansion.

On display were several artists conception posters featuring the updated terminal. The new terminal will more than double the passenger secured waiting area as well as the baggage claim section of the  airport.
