Historic Building Coming Down, Memories Of Rockford’s Davis Park
Davis Park in Rockford is getting a major facelift, so here are some of my favorite memories.
It's The End Of An Era For Downtown Rockford
The first time I came to Rockford as an adult was in the early 90s. I was visiting friends from college. They took me to the On The Waterfront Festival. I had a blast. That was the first of many great memories of spending time at the downtown park.
Through the years, they have made slight improvements to Davis Park but just not enough to take it to the next level. I think of it like teachers telling my parents at conferences. He has a lot of potential that he's not living up to. The downtown park was the same way. It could be a really cool place but just needed the effort to be made to take it there.
Davis Park will finally live up to expectations. The city has put a plan together for major changes. It will include an amphitheater, beach, playground, skatepark, skating rink, boat dock, sculptures, nature preserve, and more. It's going to be an amazing place for Rockford residents to spend time.
The construction has already begun. This week, workers have started tearing down the Lorden Building. It's the end of an era. Every time I cross over the Rock River, I always look for the landmark. It puts a smile on my face. Let's be honest though. It is really just an abandoned building painted with bright pretty colors. It should've been demolished years ago.
Great Memories Of Davis Park
As I mentioned earlier, I have great memories of spending time at Davis Park. Of course, On The Waterfront is a big part of those thoughts. There have been so many incredible concerts and festivals held there. Don't forget about the fireworks. Friday Night Flix is a very popular event. Stroll on State is fun. That's just the tip of the iceberg. I look forward to making new great moments at the improved facility.
