Red Cross Emergency Shelter Update – 05/05/11
(Evansville) – Many areas affected by rising water are seeing roads open up as some of the water recedes, however per the latest hydrological report many rivers & creek beds will not start to show a significant drop for several more days. As a result, the American Red Cross has been able to close some shelters, while others remain open. All shelters in the community remain on alert if not open, as water levels fluctuate often and we have to be ready to open and offer the community a dry, safe place for overnight accommodations and meals if needed.

FLOOD CLEAN-UP KITS AVAILABLE
To help the community facing fluctuating water levels, the American Red Cross has Flood Clean-up Kits available for pick-up at our Stockwell Road facility. On Monday, teams of volunteers will begin to mobilize into communities aiming to deliver clean-up kits, food, water and assistance information as needed in areas that otherwise have been cut off due to rising river and creek levels. Anyone with questions about clean-up kits or other assistance available is urged to call your local Red Cross Chapter or our Regional Office at (812) 471-7200.
