Billy Shane is a man is a man of action. Several years ago Billy wanted a program so special needs children could experience sports. From that idea came Two Rivers Buddy Ball providing baseball, basketball, fishing and other experiences to more than 90 kids last year. The program continues to grow.

Billy noticed it was hard for parents and caregivers of special needs children to learn about services and programs offered in the area. This Saturday that problem will become a thing of the past with the first Special Needs Awareness Fair.

Lewis Lane Baptist Church will host the 2011 Special Needs Awareness Fair from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at 2600 Lewis Lane.

The fair is free and open to all families with special-needs children.  The event will include inflatables for the children, a dunking booth, pony rides, games, and lunch.  A fire truck and the Scooby Doo van will also be on hand.

According to Shain more than 30 booths will provide information for parents and caregivers.  The booths will specialize in a variety of needs, such as Downs Syndrome, Autism, Kentucky Department for the Blind, Christian Adults with Needs.

The event will be manned with plenty of  volunteer “buddies” who will help those with special needs take part in the activities.

While parents visit information booths, the children can accompany them because booth sponsors will entertain the youngsters.

Two Rivers Buddy Ball will also be represented for those wishing more information about that program.
