The State of Missouri wont follow Illinois and Rename Asian Carp
Well, life just got more confusing for us folks on the Illinois/Missouri border, Missouri will not be renaming the Asain Carp, as Illinois has announced it will be renaming the Asain Carp, here is the full story.

If you missed it yesterday Illinois officials announced they had renamed the invasive species of fish known as the Asian Carp to Copi in efforts to try and destigmatize consumers' feelings towards the fish as they hope to start commercially fishing these Asian Carp now called Copi to sell in stores and restaurants for people to eat, you can read all about it here!
BUT according to an article on stltoday.com, the Show-Me State of Missouri will not be following Illinois' lead and will continue to call the fish the Asain Carp, in the article they say...
"Changing a fish’s name has been a successful strategy for other fish. Orange roughy was originally known as slimehead; Chilean sea bass was known as Patagonian toothfish; and peekytoe crab was once known as mud crab...The (Missouri) department (of conservation) also is attempting to convince people that the fish is good to eat...The state also is encouraging people to take as many carp as they can when fishing, as well as encouraging people to use them as cut bait."
I will say that overall I think I agree more with the approach that Missouri is taking on this Asian Carp issue, changing the name feels like a sleight of hand trick or they are trying to pull the wool over our eyes. While simply continuing to spread the message that they are ok to eat, they taste pretty good, kill and catch as many as you can, and use them as bait, which seems more straightforward and honest. Do you think the fish should be renamed in Missouri/Nationwide?
