A contractor for the Ky Transportation Cabinet plans paving operations along KY 56 in Daviess County starting Saturday, October 29, 2011.

Paving along KY 56 runs from the KY 456 intersection at mile point 8.39 extending eastward to the intersection with KY 81 at mile point 14.105, a distance of 5.72 miles.   This section is through the Sorgho community.  The work will include highway edge rumble strips and beveled shoulders to improve safety.

Motorists can expect to encounter one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers.  Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are on the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Work along this section of KY 56 in eastern Daviess County is expected to take about 2 weeks to complete.  Yager Materials is the prime contractor on this $535,860 highway improvement project.

Also:  A CSX Railroad track crew will be replacing ties and upgrading track along the rail line between Henderson and Stanley starting Monday, October 31, 2011.

The crew will start near KY 351/Second Street in Henderson and work eastward.  The crew will cover about 2 to 3 miles per day working Monday through Thursday of each week until the rail upgrade is complete.

This work will at times block roads that cross the tracks between Henderson and Stanley, including a number of county roads and state highways.  CSX, working in concert with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, will attempt to provide advance notice before closing state highways.

On Monday and Tuesday motorists in Henderson can expect Heilman Street and Priest Street to be closed for crossing work.  This is in the area between the KY 351/Second Street Overpass and 5th Street in Henderson.  Again, work will move eastward toward Stanley about 2 to 3 miles per day.

CSX and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will be working with various County agencies to assure emergency access is maintained for police, ambulance, and fire response.

Motorists should be alert for road closed signs and barricades.   Signs will be placed near closure points about a day in advance of the actual closure of streets and roads to give motorists a heads up to the next work location.
