The Apollo High School girls’ basketball team is dedicating their Jan. 23 games to Cancer Awareness.

The E-Gals will wear pink during their pregame warm-ups and the Apollo Dance Team will provide a special performance.

Approximately 50 T-shirts will be tossed into the crowd at halftime. An official University of Kentucky basketball autographed by Coach John Calipari will be given away at the game. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (Owensboro event).

The varsity game against Grayson County begins at 7:30 p.m. with the JV game starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students. Chairback seating is available for $6.

“One in two men, and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime,” said Pam Simon, former DCPS teacher and advocate for the American Cancer Society. “It’s imperative that young people are aware of preventative initiatives. There is not a student in our school district who has not had a loved one or family member touched by cancer. Working together, we could change that.”

We hope to see a full house for the game on Monday, January 23rd. This would not only show support for the team but for the hard work these young ladies have put into the fight against cancer.
