If This Isn’t the Weirdest House in Kentucky, It Could Certainly Take the Title
I had no issues whatsoever with the house in which I was raised. In fact, a single-story ranch-style is right up my alley. BOR-ING, I know. But when I was a kid, there was a very unusual "house" that I wanted to live in and it was never going to happen.
The first time my family visited Walt Disney World, my sister and I fell head over heels in love with the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. I mean, I was fascinated by treehouses anyway; I had two friends who were EXPERT treehouse builders. But the Disney World treehouse was and IS next-level.
Could This Futuro House Be the Weirdest House in Kentucky?
The same goes for a most unusual home in Covington KY known as the Futuro House or the "Spaceship House." Here's the reason for that out-of-this-world moniker.
The 'Spaceship House' Architect Didn't Stop at Just One
Designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in the late 1960s, this design came as UFO mania was at a fever pitch in the U.S. It might still be. So Suuronen's Futuro House "landed" in northern Kentucky. But it wasn't the only one. Honestly, if there are those who have never heard of these homes, they might think that we HAD been invaded, that many of them landed all over the planet, and that aliens may just have transformed into recognizable humans and are walking among us.
Yeah, that last part IS outrageous. On the other hand, I can't disprove it.
There Are Futuro Houses All Over the World
But here's what I mean...they literally ARE all over the world. Some are in excellent condition, like this one in New Zealand:
Others? Not so much, like the one in Japan:
Can you imagine walking through the woods and happening upon this thing? You'd be totally forgiven for thinking we'd been invaded.
You can even own a Futuro House franchise.
I'm so intrigued by this design used as a floor plan. It's ingenious and fun. Lots of fun. It may be a little too The-Day-the-Earth-Stood-Still for some, but as a lucrative tourist attraction, those folks could probably get over it.
