I’m Looking for the ‘Mount Rushmore of Owensboro’…and I Have Some Examples
I was listening to a talk show this morning and they were talking about the "Mount Rushmore of Talk Show Hosts."
It reminded me of what an interesting topic of discussion I think that is.
What is the "Mount Rushmore of ________?"
For example, I think candidates for the "Mount Rushmore of Male Country Artists" could be Hank Williams Sr, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and George Strait. Of course, you could only have four of those five.
If it were Female Country Artists, your candidates could be Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire.
Again, only four can be picked.
And since I'm a college basketball nut, let's do Hoops Coaches--John Wooden, Adolph Rupp, Dean Smith, Bob Knight, and, say, Mike Krzyzewski. (Yeah, I know that last name doesn't exactly play well in Kentucky, but college basketball experts would quickly and objectively submit his name for consideration)
You see where I'm going. We're talking iconic to the topic at hand.
And when it comes to what could be on the "Mount Rushmore of Owensboro," I'm not thinking it has to just be people (although that could be one).
I'm thinking it could be a combination of people places and things.
Off the top of my head, what about the Blue Bridge, the Barbecue Festival, Wendell Ford, the bypass, Gabe's Tower, the Executive Inn, the Dipper, Frederica Street?
That could just be a shortlist, too.
What do you think? Something or someone that's iconic to Owensboro. Something or someone that immediately brings the city to mind.
Let's have some fun with it.
