It wasn't very difficult at all to find out what stores were the original ones in Towne Square Mall. A Messenger-Inquirer issue dedicated a whole section to it in 1978 and I found it at the library.

Towne Square North, on the other hand, hasn't been as easy.

I remember Service Merchandise and Wal-Mart as the anchors for the strip mall when it first opened.

I remember the electronics store, Electric Avenue. I bought a great big stereo system there in 1994 and had it for 12 years.

I did some digging through microfiche at the public library and learned (because I forgot) of stores like Sycamore, Kidstop, and Fashion Carnival.

And THAT reminded me that Shoe Carnival was there before Shoe Stop.

I had forgotten there was a Kingsley's Hallmark in Towne Square North, too.

Also, I was surprised when I found out that construction began on the facility way back in 1983. I had completely forgotten it's been around that long.

Of course, there was Showbiz Pizza Place and Cici's, both of which are no longer there. (I never DID understand why Cici's left.)

By the way, I'm writing this as I go through old Messenger articles from the online archives of the Daviess County Public Library and I just saw a reference to Fleet Feet. Again, I'd forgotten all about it.

I'm now also remembering when New China Restaurant was a FRACTION of its current size.

Oh, and there was a Chi-Chi's out in front.

If you can remember anything, let me know. In the meantime, it's been nice reminiscing with you. We'll have to do it again sometime.
