I have lived in Owensboro for about 10 years, and I am still finding new groups to take part in or events to go to, and last Friday was no exception!

While filling in for Joe on the Joe Lowe Morning Show, I had the pleasure of interviewing Larry Owen of the Men’s Mass Community Choir.

Before the interview I was completely unaware of the group, which has been around since 2005. The group started small, with roughly 19 members, but has since grown by leaps and bounds, now with around 50 members! According to Mr. Owen, they have members ranging from the age of 9–years-old all the way to 90-years-old.

All of the men get together each week for rehearsal, fellowship and to praise God. Mr. Owen told us in the interview that not only is the group diverse in age, it is also diverse in the religions of its members, and racially. According to their brochure, the group bridges gaps among God’s people.

Outside of the rehearsals, the group has the chance to fellowship with the Men’s Fifth Sunday Breakfasts. Each fifth Sunday, the men get together to worship and fellowship at a different location each time.

The Choir also gives back. They take up donations for youth development and give them to the H.L. Neblett Community Center. The group also supports higher learning, partnering with the Community and Technical College’s Super Sunday College Fair.

The Choir has two major concerts each year, both of which are coming up soon. The first concert is the “Men Praising God” concert, which will be held this Sunday (February 26). It will be held at the H.L. Neblett Center at 3pm. This concert will be followed by the Super Sunday College Fair. The second concert, the “Encore Program”, will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012. It will be held at Third Baptist Church at 6pm.
