Meadow Lands Elementary School is hosting a luncheon to honor parent/community volunteers at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15. The school is located at 3500 Hayden Road.

All MLES students and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite basketball attire that day, as part of the celebration of the “team spirit” exemplified by the school’s outstanding volunteers. MLES staff members are providing food for the luncheon – mostly homemade items!

Among the volunteers to be honored is Martha Bryant. “Ms. Martha” started volunteering at Meadow Lands in 2005 when her grandson Bruce Taylor was in kindergarten, and she has been at the school ever since, volunteering more than 1,000 hours each year.

“Ms. Martha has volunteered for almost every job in the building,” said Principal Kevin Lowe. “You can catch Ms. Martha running copies, making coffee, laminating materials for staff members, answering questions for families in the office, being a cafeteria monitor in the lunchroom, cleaning dishes, giving hugs to students and whatever else is needed in the school.”

Lowe added that there is a limit to Ms. Martha’s availability: “Now, there is a time of the year that you do not bother Ms. Martha,” Lowe cautioned. “When wrestling season is here, Ms. Martha is in her ‘zone.’ Bruce had competed as a member of the MLES wrestling team and she would never miss a meet or be distracted – she is the most enthusiastic supporter in the crowd!”

But what’s even more amazing is that Bruce is now in middle school! But Ms. Martha is still a faithful member of the MLES family. “Meadow Lands would not be the same without Ms. Martha and all of her hard work, dedication, and love! Martha Bryant is why Meadow Lands is a family,” Lowe said. “We love her.”
