Power’s New Girls’ Basketball Coach at DCHS

Natalie Powers has been named head girls’ basketball coach at Daviess County High School. The announcement was made earlier today. 

Powers, who currently serves as physical education and health teacher at College View Middle School and assistant girls’ basketball coach at Daviess County High School, replaces Pat Hume, who recently was named head boys’ basketball coach at DCHS. 

Powers was a standout basketball player for Apollo High School. She attended Western Kentucky University on a basketball scholarship, earning a bachelor of science degree with a major in physical education and a minor in health education in 2003. She also earned master of arts degrees in education in the areas of exceptional education/learning behavior disorder (2007) and school counseling K-12 (2010).

 Her academic and athletic achievements include being named a President’s Scholar at WKU and selected to the Sun Belt All-Century Team and the Sun Belt All-Tournament and All-Conference Teams. She was named Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year at WKU; and received the Sun Belt Academic Award. She also played professional basketball with the Finnish Championship League in Vantaa, Finland.

She began her teaching and coaching career with DCPS in 2003. She has taught and/or coached at Apollo High School, Burns Middle School, East View Elementary School and Burns Elementary School. She also taught and coached one year in McLean County. She will continue to teach PE and health at CVMS. 

Powers said she has high expectations for success for the Lady Panthers, both in the classroom and on the court. “I want to emphasize winning ‘the DC Way,’ ” she said. “I want our female student-athletes to have fun and develop lifelong memories and friendships. I also look forward to focusing on an active relationship with our feeder schools, with a goal of developing a tradition of success for our basketball program.”
