As part of a national observance, Owensboro Municipal Utilities is celebrating Public Power Week, October 3-7, along with more than 2,000 other electric utilities whose communities provide their citizens electric services on a locally-owned, not-for-profit basis.

OMU will honor its customer-owners with a Customer Appreciation Day on Wednesday, October 5. Visitors to the Customer Service Center (2070 Tamarack Road) will receive a compact fluorescent light bulb and information about the 100-watt incandescent bulb phase-out program.

On Friday, October 7, in a unique partnership with GreenWorks Recycling, OMU invites customers to recycle electronics and electric items.

Items will be accepted at OMU’s Customer Service Center starting at 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. This partnership allows customers to easily and conveniently recycle items such as computers, monitors, cell phones, telephone equipment, batteries, microwaves, printers, and air conditioners. A complete listing of accepted items is included on the utility’s website at www.omu.org. For more information about GreenWorks Recycling, visit GreenWorks website. GreenWorks will also provide hard drive shredding services at a nominal fee. In addition, customers will receive a copy of OMU’s annual report in their October combined services billing statements. This report will provide an overview of the local utility and will also be available here.

Public Power Week is celebrated in conjunction with the American Public Power Association in Washington, D.C., the service organization for community- and state-owned electric utilities.
