In addition to donations from DCPS staff and parents, five churches in the WLES area have donated gifts for needy students, and a local business (that wishes to remain anonymous) is delivering a truckload of fresh produce, including apples, oranges and pineapples, to be distributed in Christmas baskets. Other local organizations have also donated items to help make the holidays happier for children in our community.

Heather McCarty, coordinator of the WLES Family Resource Center, said, “It is a joy and amazing to see what has been donated by generous individuals for our students and families. Volunteers have been working hard to help sort items. Sometimes in this position, we see and hear things that are really sad for our families and kids. It feels great to see so much generosity from our community and the true caring for kids.”

Family Resource and Youth Service Centers across the DCPS district are reporting similar outpourings of support to benefit their students and families. One school’s FRYSC coordinator received the following letter from an appreciative student: “I wanted to take the time to let you know my family and I appreciate everything you have done to help us out. You are very helpful to families in need. I don’t know where we would be without the help we received. Thank you so much.”
