So this is interesting and exciting. The University of Louisville Business School will begin offering courses this fall that will teach those wanting to try their hands at the distilled spirits industry

Now before you go setting up that homemade still, know that these courses are strictly business-related. Distilled spirits have deep roots in and around the Louisville area and it's a rapidly growing industry. What's cool is, it's not just about bourbon anymore.

The Distilled Spirits Business Certificate will require six classes, or 70 hours of coursework, all online. The classes will focus on the financial fundamentals of the industry, operations and supply chain issues, marketing a brand, and the system of distribution that distillers must use to sell their products.

From January 2014 through now, Kentucky has welcomed 111 announcements new or expanded business facilities in the spirits industry including wine and beer. The collective planned investment comes out about $2.7 billion.

The inaugural class expects about 20 students and applications will start being accepted next week.
