Every quarter, my daughter's school gives away prizes to kids who have done well that semester. They earn tickets when they act right and then the teachers draw tickets for students to win the prizes. And there's some good stuff up for grabs. Last year, my daughter won a robot dog. Know what we got for being good in 1987? NOT getting a ruler across your hand. It's actually a great incentive and so much fun for the kiddos.

The school buys these prizes with Box Top money. Previously, you'd have to cut out the tops of General Mills products which was a total pain. Then you'd have to put them in a baggie. And then send them to school and hope your child didn't lose your hard work.

Now, Box Tops for Education is going digital. All you have to do is scan your receipt in the app. So, you still have to remember to SAVE and SCAN your receipt and you have to have ANOTHER app on your phone but the company has promised to add rewards in the app and give back more money. Coordinators will have to set up an account for the school.

General Mills is phasing out the manual box top method but some are still available. Check the top of your box for details. And if this is too much trouble, consider donating to your child's school. Even $5-10 can go a long way. As someone who serves on the parent-teacher group, money in school doesn't come easy. And in order for your child to have a positive learning experience, believe me, it takes a lot of money and a lot of volunteer hours.

Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.

If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for your school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online. -general mills
